Job overview

This is a newly established and exciting role for a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for Coulsdon1.

The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for Coulsdon1 will have on-going clinical responsibility for the designated area in which they are allocated.

They will be required to provide managerial accountability in the absence of the Team Leader under the supervision of the Surgical Matron / Manager.

In addition to clinical duties, the direct supervision and training of junior staff will be their responsibility in order to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service to patients and users.

They will be responsible for the provision of high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives in Coulsdon1.

The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will be responsible for acting in such a manner as to uphold and enhance the good standard and reputation of the Trust.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic nursing staff to join our friendly and small team of nurses specifically rendering Pre- operative admission care  into our renowned Croydon Elective Centre (CEC)- the hospital within the hospital of CUH Trust. We are looking for an experienced nurse ( preferably with Pre / Post-Op assessment & clinical  experience as Band 5) with a flexible approach to work patterns, good interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate change.

You will have the opportunity to rotate between admission, discharge and surgical assessment unit duties appropriate to your experiences.  

The Coulsdon1 department is where patients come for same day pre-op  surgical admission prior to surgical procedure. We need a proactive ward Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to attain the role of clinical leadership and management of the  team.. Our experienced staff take care of all ages across the borough of Croydon.

You must currently be registered with NMC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Junior Sister/ Charge nurse, your main duties will be caring for ambulant patients that needs pre-op admission prior to same day planned procedure, provide fluid flow of pre-op patients coming in through the doors of CEC up to their journey to theatres for their planned procedure.

You will be expected to look after post- operative patients under local anaesthetics up to the patient's same day safe discharge.

It is expected that communication with the team for any changes in patients condition to the attending doctors .

Ensure that standard documentation is followed and providing admitting /discharge patients with appropriate instructions.

Essential criteria
  • Registration with the NMC and /or HPC
  • assessors course
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Intravenous certificate or willingness to undergo training
  • Experience in the supervising of students and support staff/others

knowledge and Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of the role and remit of care of peri-operative patients
  • Peri-operative awareness of the clinical aspects of the role
Desirable criteria
  • Wards Skills some recovery or ITU experience
  • cannulation and phlebotomy course
