Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a full time 10 PA GUM & HIV locum consultant at Croydon Sexual Health & HIV Centre

The HIV department is situated in purpose built premises on the acute hospital site. The HIV cohort at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) is growing and currently has over 950 patients. The majority of individuals are on antiviral therapy. CUH has one of the largest cohorts of dually HIV/TB infected patients in the UK. Women make up a majority of the HIV cohort and hence pregnancy is common.  HIV inpatients are admitted under the HIV team. Inpatient numbers are growing with approximately 100 admissions annually, many of whom have opportunistic infections requiring complex interventions.

The borough of Croydon has an extremely high prevalence of HIV (6 in 1,000). We recently launched Opt out HIV testing in the Emergency Department and there is an expectation that the HIV cohort will grow accordingly.

The Sexual Health centre is situated on the same premises as the HIV department and sees approx. 22,000 patients annually and has a high prevalence of STIs.

The post involves GUM outpatients and both outpatient and inpatient care for HIV. It is envisaged that the post holder will have a special interest in the management of HIV infected inpatients and will share the leadership for the HIV service at CUH with the other inpatient consultants.

On-Call Duties

There is a 1 in 3 non-residential on call providing telephone support and advice to other healthcare professionals.
