Job overview

This Project will help in meeting the Rapid Diagnostics Centre  target set in the NHS plan and Cancer plan the national target is  to meet 100% coverage of RDC in the UK by 2024. 

The role supports early diagnostics in cancer care for patients who have vague symptoms, but also supports early diagnostics of non cancer patients.

The Role will require close working relationsships with an advance nurse practitioner and another GP and building relationships across the hospital to help support this patients pathway.

Main duties of the job

Two face to face  clinics per week

The GP's Role will be to assess patients who have been referred on a 2 week wait pathway. They patient may not fit a specific pathway, but may have vague symptoms of suspected cancers.  The GP will work closely with 2 ANP's  and review  results from test  already under taken by referring GP and will consider further diagnostic tests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be part of the core CUH RDC team working with RDC ANP, supported by a RDC Clinical Lead and RDC administrative support. The CUH RDC clinic will be supported, whenever required, by the Acute Oncology Team and will be required to form good links with all other specialities within the trust, who may be required to further manage a patient seen in the RDC clinic. This non-exclusive list includes acute and general medicine, gynaecology, and general surgery.

Person specification


Essential criteria
  • 3 years plus experience as a GP
  • GMC registration
  • Experience in leading a service and interest in diagnostics/cancer
Desirable criteria
  • Working as a GP in Croydon
  • Experience in working in rapid diagnostics

Sound understanding of the RDC pathway

Desirable criteria
  • Experience in setting up new service
