CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN (Special interest in Neonatology)

This is a full time 10 PA locum post to cover retirement.
Applicants are invited to apply for a position of Consultant Paediatrician with special interest in Neonatology. This post has arisen as a result of a vacancy arising from retirement within the Department. We are seeking a post holder with expertise in Neonatology, a specialist interest in cardiology is desirable that would augment the current provision of services within the Department. This is a joint post with the level 3 neonatal unit at St George’s hospital.
The Acute Paediatric Department has total of 13 WTE consultants, including this post. The post holder will cover the neonatal unit on a rotating 8 week cycle incorporating 2 attending weeks as consultant of the week. This will be shared with three WTE Consultants. Some of the attending weeks would be on the level 3 neonatal unit at St George’s Hospital. Annual leave will be covered internally. On call commitment is 1: 13 with internal cover. When on call, the post holder is expected to cross cover General Paediatrics, Neonatology and Paediatric Emergency Department, and to be on site until 22:00 hrs to ensure compliance with London Quality standards of on- site consultant presence during hours of peak activity.
The Neonatal Unit at Croydon, is a Level 2 LNU comprising 4 ITU, 5 HDU and 17 Special Care cots. There are state of the art monitors, and facilities for HFOV, CFAM and cerebral ultrasound. The delivery rate is approximately 4,000 deliveries per year. We are part of the South Thames Neonatal network and work closely with the neonatal unit at St George’s Hospital, which is our regional Level 3 Neonatal Unit. Infants such as those born below 27 weeks gestation and those with surgical problems etc. are transferred to tertiary units as per National Neonatal Service Specification.
The acute Paediatric department at Croydon University Hospital is currently undergoing a process of change and development, thereby ensuring it continues to deliver an excellent high quality, patient centred, responsive care. The Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) area within CUH emergency department caters for approximately 25,000 children annually, and due to the diverse population in the Croydon area we see a wide variety of acute pathology. A completely new Emergency Department (including PED) opened in December 2018. The new PED has state of the art facilities including two high specification resuscitation cubicles and an HDU cubicle. The vision is to provide an integrated, multi-functional facility ‘Children’s Unit’. This includes Paediatric critical care, Paediatric oncology, short stay unit, day surgery, and inpatient ward all co-located. This will permit innovative ambulatory care and a fully integrated service across the range of acute paediatric care pathways as well as improved partnership with community based services.
